The Wembley High School organised a Polar Bear Challenge in the Wembley pool on Monday, 17 June to raise money for Arcadia Old Age Home. “A polar bear plunge is an event held during the winter where participants enter a body of water despite the low temperature to raise money for charity.”
The event was three days short of the Winter solstice. Traditionally the winter solstice is the middle of winter; although in some countries it is seen as the beginning of winter or the “shortest day”.Wembley was delighted to raise close to R10 000 for Arcadia Old Age Home. Thank you to the parents, teachers and the Greytown community for entering into this chilly but heartwarming event. Luckily there was hot chocolate and gluhwein to warm the cold but invigorated swimmers.
