Baden Michaels, a grade 10 learner at Swellendam High School competed at the SAGA Senior Gashuku on the 24th of August in order to achieve his belt. This event was held in Klein Groenland, Stellenbosch. After a long, exhausting 6 hours, Baden successfully passed his junior Shodan grading and earned his junior black belt. Baden was also joined by some learners who are still fighting their way to their black belts. Mia-né Burger and Liam Tenggren both achieved their blue belts and Christof Franken achieved his brown belt (L2). Congratulations to these learners and especially Baden for such a marvellous result. It takes a great deal of discipline to master the art of karate. The learners are fortunate to have such an amazing instructor: Almary Roussouw from Goju Ryu Karate – Swellendam.
