Drama
LIBU MJIWU, RONALD THERON and ABDUL-QADIR MARAIS attended the Proscenium National finals from 15 – 17 May 2025 in Cape Town at the Artscape Theatre Complex as three of the top 70 selected from approximately 600 learners nationally, after the nationwide audition process.
Abdul-Qadir Marais and Libu Mjiwu performed superbly well in the first round, but unfortunately were not selected to progress to the Top 30. However, Abdul-Qadir was exclusively invited to a call-back audition by Kobus Burger at the RSG studio in Sea Point and did incredibly well.
Ronald continued through the process being selected as one of the Top 30, where he performed a monologue, the Top 16 that included a screen test and audition on the set of Kyknet soapie Suidooster, a radio drama audition at RSG, and an overdubbing audition at Overklank studios. After an incredibly tight elimination process, Ronald was selected to progress to the final round – the Top 8, with adjudicators to the likes of theatre guru and icon, Sandra Prinsloo; Dean John Smith from Suidooster where he plays the part of Wade Daniels, multi-award winning actor and director Lee-Ann van Rooi, RSG’s programme manager Kobus Burger, and more. As the final round takes the form of a theme programme with added technical aspects, Libu Mjiwu stepped in as Ronald’s lighting technician and Ms. Stemmet as his sound operator.
