Curro Century City scores big with new Head of Sport appointment. The JSE-listed independent school group, Curro Holdings is delighted to announce the appointment of Darryl Christians as the new Head of Sport at Curro Century City, in Cape Town. Mr Christians has been the Head of Sport at Curro Durbanville High School for the last five years and is therefore no stranger to the values, aims and ethos of Curro. Here, he played a central role in coaching both the boys and girls hockey teams into the hockey premier league.

Fondly known as ‘Coach D’ by staff, parents, and learners alike, Mr Christians is a qualified level two hockey coach and umpire, who received his certification abroad. An invaluable champion for sports education, he is the only coach in the Group to have won four Curro Cups for both boys and girls hockey teams. Perhaps a testament to his passion for sport and his sheer dedication to his learners, Mr Christians spent his spare time helping to coach 26 players to make the Western Province hockey league this year. Two of his learners have since received their SA colours and one even obtained a scholarship to study hockey at university.

Firmly grounded in the belief that hard work never killed anyone, Mr Christians is excited to hit the ground running when he joins Curro Century City. “I cannot wait to get out in the gym and on the sports field and start training and coaching teams at Curro Century City. The benefits of sports in a learner’s life should never be underestimated. Apart from keeping them fit and healthy, learners also achieve lifelong skills like having respect and discipline and being able to work as a team,” says Mr Christians. Commenting on the new promotion, Shaun McMurtry, Business Executive at Curro Holdings said “Mr Christians’ appointment is very well deserved. Not only does he bring a wealth of experience to the sports field, but his unwavering commitment to both his learners and sport, in general, is incomparable. I know he will embrace his new role with enthusiasm and vigour and will no doubt make an invaluable contribution to both the school and the wider sporting community. We wish him every success and cannot wait to see his achievements both on and off the sports fields.”
