St Joseph’s Marist College embarks on digital transformation
We have embarked on a journey to integrate technology into school life at St Joseph’s Marist College, and what a journey it has been! Our goal is to continue to provide an excellent educational environment that engages our children with cutting edge global issues and technological trends in a rapidly changing world to prepare them to become creative, critical and adaptive global citizens and critically engage and construct knowledge informed by a wide variety of sources to apply
Christ-centred solutions to global problems.
Over the last year we have been training our teachers in all the features that G Suite for education has to offer with the leading Google Partners in South Africa, and our teachers have been implementing the apps in their lessons with Docs, Slides and Classroom being the more frequently used apps. We believe that the integration of technology into our curriculum will bring about many more opportunities for rich, collaborative learning. To achieve this, we have become a Google School, which gives both teachers and learners access to the full Google site which includes Gmail, Docs, Drive, Calendar, Hangouts, Classroom and much more. G Suite for Education has been designed in a way that makes work flow easier and brings teachers and students together, encouraging creativity and independent learning, because we believe that when students and teachers innovate and have collaborative tools for their classroom, amazing learning happens!
Our WiFi infrastructure and firewall has been significantly upgraded allowing High School Students access to the internet, making these tools significantly more accessible for them. This also opens up a new avenue of implementing one to one devices within the classroom setting, opening doors to more collaborative and innovative learning across all subjects.
The growth at the College is very exciting, with coding and online learning being utilised exponentially. The world around us is changing and we must be preparing our learners to face these changes with confidence and resilience. There are even more exciting endeavors around the corner.
