Fish Hoek High School learner takes a stand against pollution
FHHS 13-year-old Gr 8 student Jade Bothma, founder of Oceano Reddentes a non-profit organisation, recently initiated a beach clean-up.
After spending time at Dalebrook tidal pool she found plastic amongst the small sea life living in the pools. This motivated Jade to do something about it and took action. She invited other “ocean warriors” to assist and was pleased to see over 100 individuals, children and adults attending the clean-up. Some people coming from neighbouring eco-clubs from the surrounding schools and universities.
All the plastic and waste collected will be re-cycled. Jade feels that it is time we all started thinking about how our actions affect the environment. We need to take care of the world around us so that it can take care of us.
Jade is planning more beach clean-ups – see her facebook page for more information Oceano Reddentes https://www.facebook.com/oceanoreddentes/.
