British and Irish Lions plant trees at Hermanus High School
“Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago.”
In 1949 Hermanus had the touring All Black team as visitors. Residing at the Marine Hotel the team was actively involved with numerous events in our town, and the one that we treasure most was the planting of a grove of gum trees. Most of these trees were taken out to make space for buildings, but two of these still remain on our school grounds.

This week, 72 years later, the touring British and Irish Lions team repeated history. Lion’s flanker Hamish Watson and Duhan van der Merwe (wing) took the time out of their busy schedule to assist with our tree planting today! Hamish Watson and Duhan van der Merwe.
