Worcester Gymnasium former head boy accepted by Anne Hathaway Alma Mater
Janco Nel, 2016 head boy of Worcester Gymnasium, was honoured to be accepted by The American Academy of Dramatic Arts. This is a top performing arts institute in the USA, an institute of which its alumni obtained 110 Oscar awards, 318 Emmy awards and 95 Tony awards.
Janco, who is at present studying his Honours degree in BCom Management Accounting at the University of Stellenbosch, was accepted as part of an elite group from all over the world to join the New York campus in January 2021. He already received a merit bursary of $2000 from this institute.
This vibrant, positive young man strongly believes in the wonderful outlook of Dr Anton Rupert:” Help others in order for them to help themselves. The moment they are able to help themselves, they will be motivated to assist another person in need.”
His vision in life is to use the success of his film and theatre career and his business knowledge as a means to continue the incredible legacy of Dr Rupert and ultimately BE the change we want to see.
Finances have always been a challenge in Janco’s life, but he honestly believes that he can overcome every challenge if it is in God’s will. Janco auditioned for the 2021 intake of the vibrant top South African musical theatre institute, the Luitingh Alexander Musical Theatre Academy (LAMTA), founded by the well-known Pieter Toerien, Duane Alexander and Anton Luiting. This institute is still young, but already developed an excellent reputation, locally and internationally.
At this stage Janco is seriously looking out for bursaries to ensure that he can still study at the above mentioned LAMTA, if the opportunity in the USA does not work out. This talented young man was recently seen as the understudy role of Corny Collins in the Artscape production, Hairspray. Here he astonished the audience with his outstanding performance.
After school he never stopped to develop his dancing, singing and acting skills by among other things attending musical theatre workshops of two of our country’s superb musical theatre artists, Anton Luitingh and Duane Alexander. Furthermore, Janco was privileged to be personally coached by two Broadway superstars, Meghan Pecerno (Christine in Phantom of the Opera) and Caissie Levy (Elsa in Frozen). Janco gives Jesus Christ, his personal savior and redeemer, all honour and gratitude for being successful in fulfilling his dreams.
