Class of 2020 in the spotlight: Sienna-Reese Lombard from Treverton Prep & College
The Covid-19 pandemic resulted in schools closing and students learning from home, ultimately leaving no room for sport. One has to feel for the Grade 7s and 12s in their last years of primary and high school. The boys and girls worked hard on the pre-season training and looked forward to a year full of excitement, recognition and new experiences but now have missed out on certain opportunities in 2020. AWSUM would like to give them some recognition as they will never be able to turn back the clock and write their own bit of school history in a year that was to be their biggest in their school career.
AWSUM spoke to Sienna-Reese Lombard from Treverton Preparatory School & College’s 1st girls soccer team. She plays defence, mid-fielder and left wing.
This is a difficult year for the Grade 7’s of 2020, and even more so for the sportsmen and girls. Can you describe to us your personal experience and feelings in this regard? With the restrictions of not being allowed to participate in any sports events, I have found that our teamwork has been compromised and that most people have become lazy, so I have.personally felt angry, disappointed and sad during this time.
What were you looking forward to the most this year? I was most looking forward to the inter-house events, athletics day and sports matches, especially soccer.
Who would have been your toughest opposition and why? My toughest opposition would be Adrienne Kenyon-Slade, Sophie Drummond, Ponky, Luthando Mthalane, Winteton and Clifton because they are amazing sports women and Clifton and Winteton are the schools to beat.
Any outstanding players in your team(in your opinion) that the public missed out on seeing play this year? I would say the public missed out on seeing the Treverton soccer, hockey and athletics team- Ponky, Sophie, Luthando, Adi, Goa, myself, Meg and Simpiwe really perform.
What makes it special to play for the first team of Treverton Preparatory? The first team players for Treverton are really amazing individuals and its an honour to play alongside them and to represent Treverton.
What is your best memory on the soccer field thus far? My best memory would be at the top of the swimming pool.
Why would you recommend Treverton Preparatory to future scholars? I would recommend Treverton Preparatory and College because they are both so adventure filled, fun, exciting and just the perfect place for an individual to grow in character and personality.
What is your focus for the rest of 2020? My focus for 2020 is to stay fit, excel in academics, have fun and be myself.
Which high school are you going to in 2021? I will be going to Treverton College for 2021
A message to your teammates of 2020: Thank you Treverton 2020 Grade 7’s! You have all been such amazing friends and sportsmen and women! You are all very talented and it is an honour to play sports alongside you.
