Sport Highlights for Dundee High School: Sport Against St Dominic’s Academy
We are currently in the process of playing our winter league games and it is going very well. On 20 April 2022, we travelled to Newcastle to compete against the St Dom’s hockey teams and to play some chess. Even though the chess didn’t go too well and St Dom’s proved themselves to be the victors of the day, our chess team had a lot of fun and two games went into extra time.
Hockey
The 2nd team hockey boys played first against St Dom’s second team and it ended in a 0 – 0 draw. The boys played exceptionally well and some brilliant back passes were made, switching the game effortlessly on Astro, even though they only practise on grass. Well done to Raphael who played an exceptional game.
The first team hockey boys played a great game but unfortunately lost 3 – 0 even though Brutus and Nkonzwenhle Mlaba and Ntando Zuke had great games. The team played well but unfortunately didn’t convert. The first girls’ hockey team also unfortunately lost 0- 3.

Sport Against Ladysmith High
Rugby
On the twenty-third of April Ladysmith High came to Dundee for an exciting day of sports. Dundee High’s rugby teams were ready for battle and were not backing down. These were the results: U/14 Won 72-0, U/15 Drew 5-5, U/16 Won 10-5, 2nd team Won 28-14. The first rugby team (ZORBA!!) was under an intense amount of pressure to keep Dundee in winning ways and to end the day on a good note. Despite this, ZORBA managed to win 19-0.
Honourable mention to the try scorers: Lulama Ndebele, Hanro Van Zyl, Ngcebo Ntshangase (Report by Dalisu Mbatha)
Netball
Roller coasters go up and down; but we have the kind that goes up and never comes down! Our very own netball stars. They have been shooting upwards since the beginning of the week from Umzinyathi trails where the majority of them got selected, to the fire rounds they gave Newcastle’s St Domenic’s Academy with nothing but wins for the girls, to finally tackling Ladysmith High with excellent scores for the senior teams. U14 lost 9-16, U15 lost 8 – 3, U16 lost 11-21. Then they won 2 games: The Second team won 9 – 4 and the First team won 21 -7. (Report by Dalisu Mbatha)
Hockey
The school performed very well against Ladysmith High. The u/14 girls won 4 – 1, the u/16 girls unfortunately lost and the 2nd boys won 3 – 0 on a field that could be called a dam instead of an actual hockey field. The boys were slipping and sliding all over the park with water and mud everywhere but they managed to score three goals regardless. The first team hockey girls also played a great game and won 4 – 0 and the first hockey boys unfortunately lost 1-0. Overall it was a lovely day with plenty of laughter and many friendly faces as we were finally able to enjoy some interschool sport. We are looking forward to the next games.
