New Hanover Prep hosted annual fishing competition. On Saturday, 11 March 2023 NHP hosted our 19th annual Bass Fishing Competition. This event is a highlight on the calendar and one that anglers across the province look forward to every year. Over the years, the NHP “Get Reel, Go Fish” event has grown into the biggest bass fishing competition in the Southern Hemisphere based on numbers and this year saw an impressive 1177 anglers participating. Once again, we were blessed with beautiful, hot weather on the day. Families and fishermen enjoyed a wonderful day out, appreciating the scenery and excellent fishing at some of the 22 private farm dams that are open to the public for the event.
The junior winner for 2023 was Christopher Uys who caught a 48,1cm bass. The senior winner was Kirsty Emanuel who caught the biggest bass of the day measuring 58,2cm. New Hanover Prep. would like to extend our heart-felt thanks to everyone who made this event such a huge success. From our amazing sponsors, to the farmers, to our hard working NHP parents, and of course to everyone who came to fish and supported the event. We look forward hosting our 20th competition next year, and have no doubt that it will be a resounding success.
