Glenwood High School Junior Prize Giving 2023 took place on Wednesday 1 March. The Deputy Headmaster, Mr. Morne Scott, was the Master of Ceremony. The guest speaker was old boy Iain Ewok Robinson (1999) who was introduced by Mrs Marion Loudon (Head of Drama):

Ntobeko Shabalala
“An unconventional thinker with a strong personality who has the courage of his convictions and is prepared to defend his beliefs. An independent thinker who is refreshingly non-conformist.” This, taken from his Glenwood High School matric testimonial in 1999 (I am sure he won’t mind me giving away his age…for those of you who can do the maths), perfectly describes Mr. Iain Robinson or, EWOK as some of you may know him.
Ewok is a Spoken Word Hip Hop activist (yes boys, the guest is a Hip Hop artist) and educator. According to his Bio, Ewok’s critical lyrical form was forged in the freestyle battle rap and poetry slam scene.
As a theatermaker and independent musician, EWOK uses his words to stimulate debate and awaken critical consciousness. He is a qualified performance educator, a published poet and playwright, and a professional aerosol artist producing street art that both provokes and promotes. In other words, he likes to say it, and spray it. He has worked as a member (or in close association with) an array of civil society organizations, including the UKZN Center for Civil Society, and BDS South Africa. He currently represents KZN on the inaugural National Steering Committee of the Theater and Dance Alliance. I personally, have had the pleasure of sharing a stage with this multi-talented Old Boy, and I am very honoured, and excited, to bring him up onto this stage for the first time, in what I am sure is a long time… Please welcome Iain “Ewok” Robinson.
