On the AWSUM couch: Parktown Boys’ High School 2019 head boy
Meet Dean Fin, Parktown Boys’ High School 2019 head boy
What is our philosophy as a leader?
There can be no greater gift than that of giving ones time without expecting anything in return “Nelson Mandela. I believe in creating leaders, not followers. Each one of us has our own individual strengths.
What are your strengths as a leader?
My strength as a leader in my school, the Army of boys and educators who do all they can to shine.
I am not alone.
What do you look forward to the most as a grade 7 learner?
What I look forward to most in leading the school to in 2019 is answered in question four.
What change do you want to implement in the school?
My focus is never to change a strong institution in good or bad times. Parktown Boys are often complimented on their manner, strength and heritage. I only encourage growth in positive campaigns and appreciate all involved.
Any highlights during your school career so far?
The Highlights of my school career would be various campaigns I have run with. Most treasured is Chaeli Mycroft an ability activist, a South African Icon- who has invested time in Parktown. He will be visiting again from Cape town soon. I learnt a lot about just appreciating life by dressing up as a Superhero and visiting Oncology wards along with my peers as well as Rainbows and Smiles. People often want some form of remuneration when creating events. I can say I am extremely rich in every hug I have received and each smile I’ve been given.
What do you want to achieve in 2019?
What I would like to achieve as a leader and matric learner in 2019 is to create as much excitement in events so everyone can get involved and to keep on growing. I can honestly say as a young pioneer my goals were set from grade 8 not only now.
Any message for your co-prefects?
My message to the prefects is to lead by example in all you do. It is an honour to be part of this team.
Who is your role model?
My role model will be my mom. She has inspired me from when I was very young and been a strong influence. She is a selfless person and has taught me so much.
If you could be any superhero, who do you want to be and why?
If I could be a superhero, I would help all the children I met in the Oncology ward. A superhero to me is not what’s portrayed in a cape but those who conquer illness, pain and never give up. To me, that is a warrior!
On a normal Friday, you will find me at…….with…….…
On a normal Friday, you will find me either at a water polo game or hockey. With my family.
Who is your Hollywood celeb crush?
Would be Margot Robbie
What are your plans for after matric (2020)?
Plans for 2020 are already in progress as at the end of November I will be hosting a seminar along with Andrew Oberholzer CEO of prostate cancer at the Auditing firm BDO. I will be talking on testicular cancer awareness. My interest is in corporate/accounting. I have worked hard to create interest in other firms and continue to do so. My plans began in grade 8.
