Teachers of Pretoria HS for Girls go the extra Midmar Mile
Teachers go the (Extra) Midmar Mile
By Mrs Eloff
Congratulations to our brave teachers who took place in the Midmar Mile. The learners gave cheers of proud support when the results were announced in Assembly.
With 1 mile being equivalent to 1.6km, Mrs Albertyn got in the most exercise and swam 8 miles (12.8km) over the course of the weekend. Mrs Albertyn and her family took part in the family race (4 miles) on Saturday, to raise funds for the Pink Drive, and won that category for the 4th time! She also took part in the main race on Sunday (4 miles) in the 41 – 50 age group, and placed 1st out of 270 competitors.
Ms Dorlas, who has participated in 26 Midmars over the years, took an incredible 5th place overall out of 152 competitors in the main race on Sunday in the 51-60 age group, proving she will always have what it takes.
Mrs Russell also braved the waters on Sunday in the 40 – 50 age group and Ms Austin took part on Sunday in the 31 – 40 age group.
Mr Oertel and one of the Water Polo coaches, Coach Batsi, also swam after submitting a last minute entry to keep a promise to learners. A deal was made with the Water Polo players, promising that if the players finished 2 places higher than they had the previous year at the Aquatics Festival, Mr Oertel and Coach Basti would enter the Midmar Mile. Of course, the Water Polo girls then took it upon themselves to ensure they would finish 2 places higher, which they did.
