El Shaddai learners improve their financial literacy
El-Shaddai Christian School in Vanderbijlpark represented the region well at the South African Reserve Bank Monetary Policy Committee School Challenge. The challenge is born from the need to help learners build an understanding of the broader role of economics in their day-to-day lives and the need to improve financial and economic literacy amount the young people.
Of the 159 schools across the country that took part, El-Shaddai Christian School was the only one in the D8 district chosen and managed to walk away with the 6th position in the national competition. The event took place at the South African Reserve Bank in Pretoria and was attended by the Governor of the Reserve Bank Mr Lesetja Kganyago, Minister of Basic Education, Minister Angie Motshega and the MEC of Education, Mr Panyaza Lesufi. The learners were Raletjatji Matsobane (Head Boy), Olian Mokhwana (Head Girl), Amukelani Khwidzili, Rethabile Moloi together with their economics educator, Mr Jameson Zivanai.
