Christ Church Preparatory School and College Slam Poetry Festival
The Christ Church College Slam Poetry Festival was held on 1 October; and the standard was, yet again, exemplary. The performers spoke powerfully, and with great passion, on important matters affecting society today. A poetry slam is a competition arts event, in which poets perform spoken word poetry before a live audience and a panel of judges. Culturally, poetry slams are a break with the past image of poetry as an elitist or rigid art form.
The best speakers of the day were Amy Fletcher, Valyska Govender, Ciara van Zyl and Hannah Ritchie Uyazi Mthethwa, Nakai Kurewa and Tawana Zuma. Christ Church Preparatory School and College would like to thank all the speakers for their hard work, our adjudicator, Bianca Leu, a former pupil and slam poet, Amukele Xaba for being the MC of the event, as well as the audience for their continued loyal support.
