King Edward VII School – Red crews produced a season of Excellence!
After a season of excellent results from our King Edward VII School crews, MIC, Mr Dedlow reports back:
‘The 2018 Rowing Season ended with the South African Schools’ Championship during the first weekend of March.
The club placed fourth overall and managed to achieve six medals over the three days. Noteworthy were the Gold medal achieved by our Under Fourteen Sculler, Robert Bryce who progressed from a field of seventy-four scullers to claim gold in the final, the golds achieved by the First Pair of Baxter and Bonhage Koen and the gold achieved by the First Four of Baxter, Bonhage Koen, Geldhof, Nepgen and McJarrow. The Pair and Four have now won three consecutive South African titles and claimed three South African records in the process.
Other medallists included our Under Sixteen Coxless Four (Silver), our Second Eight (Silver) and our First Eight who took the bronze medal.
2018 has been a good season for the club. Together with receiving our new equipment, we have seen all our age groups develop and progress during the season. We have certainly been competitive on the water and spirited on the bank. Almost without exception every one of our crews rowed their best race of the season at the Championship and despite some disappointments for some of our crews, the margin between medalling and not medalling was extremely close.
Our Under Fourteen and Under Fifteen Octuples both placed fourth in very close races but the boys can be proud of the way they progressed during the season and both crews were very close to medalling. Our Under Fifteen B Octuple were inspirational in missing the A Final by less than a second. Their commitment to scoring points for the club, and their disappointment at missing out is testimony to the healthy spirit within the club.
I would like to take the opportunity of thanking all the boys for their dedication and work during the season. I would also like to thank the staff, coaches and parents for their continued support. ‘
Outstanding crews under inspirational leadership, we could not be prouder of our Red Rowing Club! Well done to every lad, coach, support staff and of course our amazing red army of parents.
