St Barnabas School First Aid Training with EMS Training Academy
St Barnabas School on March of 2020 was an experience of a life time – full of laughs, joy and meaningful interactions. We did not just gain knowledge but also developed a deep bond with one another; we became so close in that one week. Being part of the few, fortunate learners who were chosen for this 1-week academy, we are very honoured to have attended the training. At first, we thought that there was not much to first aid but the practical and theoretical training we received proved us wrong. The selfless, caring nature of the facilitators was really inspirational. The amount of effort that needed to be put in made us realise how important it is to be trained properly in order to deal with the challenges of the job. To our surprise, the learners we interact ed with from other schools were very welcoming toward us which allowed us to express ourselves freely during the training.
Everyone would agree that the first day of our training was very memorable. The entire experience was new to us and this introduction enlightened us to what we could expect from first aid. We would highly recommend this program, as it provides a practical experience which has enhanced our confidence and has helped us to understand exactly what to do in a health compromising situation.
On our last day, we were required to do a practical test which was especially beneficial since we were now able to apply the skills we had learnt. We were given the opportunity to work on a medical dummy, which felt like a human. It really made us feel as if we were saving a person in real life.
The First Aiders would like to personally thank the gracious men and women who trained us to do exceptional things; we are especially grateful for the amount of patience offered to us. To our team: this experience would not have been as meaningful without any of you. We are so proud of everyone! A special thank you to Ms. Albertyn for accompanying us and helping us reach our goals.
