Saint Andrew’s learner selected for SA U.19 cricket team
Pheko Moletsane, who is matric, at Saint Andrew’s in Bloemfontein, was called up to the South African under-19 cricket team for the side’s recent series against Pakistan during the June/July holidays. He is hoping to make the SA U.19 team which will be playing the 2020 Cricket World Cup on home soil.
Bloemfontein, Potchefstroom and Kimberley will be the host cities, which means, if he makes it, he will be able to play in front of his school. Fellow Old Andrean, Gerald Coetzee, last year’s South African Schools’ captain, also represented South Africa against Pakistan and is a certainty to make the team for the World Cup, barring injury.
An off-spin bowling all-rounder, Pheko made the South African Colts team in grade 10 and played a pivotal role in helping Saints become national champions in the Coca-Cola Schools T20 Challenge in 2018. He has been a member of the Saints’ 1st XI for the past three years and has played a big part in helping them qualify to represent the Knights at the national finals in each of those years.
