Daniel Pienaar THS 1st XV rugby team participating in St John’s College Easter Rugby Festival
The first rugby team of Daniel Pienaar Technical High School, the oldest technical school in the country, are presently taking part in the prestigious St John’s College Easter Rugby Festival. They are accompanied by their manager, Mr Justin Benn, coaches, Messrs Abrie van Tonder and Dawie Human and conditioner, Mr Ruan Taljaardt. The principal, Mr Sampie Marais, and rugby organiser, Mr Moolman Olivier, will soon be joining them.
Mr Olivier reports that the Tigers, as Daniel Pienaar is fondly known, have done well in the North-South Rugby Derby held at Daniel Pienaar THS recently. They beat Marais Viljoen and Transvalia and lost a see-saw match against the very competitive Middelburg High. According to Mr Olivier, Daniel Pienaar is keen to meet the challenges of the St John’s Rugby Festival, in spite of the team having to face several injuries after playing the excellent first team of Framesby High on Saturday.
Mr Marais reports that this tournament does not only allow Daniel Pienaar to rub shoulders with some of the best rugby teams in the country, but also broadens the horizons of the Tigers. They have, for example, been to Loftus Versfeld, and, time permitting, will explore Johannesburg some more.
Daniel Pienaar THS is always thankful for top-quality rugby tournaments, like that of St John’s, and wishes all participating teams all of the best.
