Lebone II College of the Royal Bafokeng Valediction – Looking at Tomorrow’s Leaders Today. As the Matric Class of 2025 at Lebone II – College of the Royal Bafokeng prepares to put pen to paper for their final examinations, they were recently celebrated and honoured at a memorable valediction ceremony held at the school in the heart of Phokeng, in South Africa’s North West Province.
“Never lose sight of your dreams as you make your way into the next chapter of your lives,” was the inspiring call from keynote speaker, Mr Rorisang Tshabalala, founder of ChapterOne Innovation and trustee on the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund board.
In a stirring address, Mr Tshabalala encouraged the Class of 2025 to harness their dreams, fears, hates, and loves, rather than merely reacting to them when faced with life’s challenges and victories. His organisation also gifted each Grade 12 student with a uniquely curated token, symbolising the central theme of his message – living intentionally and purposefully.

The valediction was attended by ISASA Regional Director Mr Bernard Langton, members of the school’s executive team, board representatives, community leaders, alumni, parents, teachers, and students – a gathering that reflected the unity and pride of the Lebone II community.
In keeping with tradition, Executive Head Mr Melvin King opened the ceremony by lighting the Lebone II candle, a symbolic act that marks all significant school gatherings. “We shine the light today on our graduating class of 2025,” he declared, setting a tone of reflection and celebration.
The ceremony featured inspirational speeches, soulful music, and the symbolic blanket ceremony, a cherished Lebone II tradition. “The tradition of the blanket holds a profound significance for the school as an emblem of African heritage,” explained Upper School Principal, Mr Luciano Antonio.
Several Matric students were recognised with academic awards for their outstanding achievements, showcasing the excellence and dedication that define the Lebone II learning experience. The event was a vivid reflection of how learning at Lebone shapes not just academic ability but also character and leadership – marking, as Mr King expressed, “an official transition from this stage of their academic journey to the next.”
In his closing remarks, Mr King acknowledged the contributions of the outgoing student leadership, commending them for leaving “an indelible mark on the history of the school.”
Touching on the broader global context, Mr King reminded the Class of 2025 that “the world needs strong leadership,” especially in times of conflict and uncertainty. He affirmed that education must go beyond academic success to cultivate respectful thought leaders who act in the interest of others.
“I look forward to tomorrow, because I want to live in a world where you are going to lead,” he said – a message that resonated deeply with the audience.
Echoing these sentiments, Mr Tshabalala challenged the young graduates “not to wear their problems as badges of honour, but to make their badges of honour what they have done to ensure that those problems are not inherited by future generations.”
The ceremony stood as a moving reminder of Lebone II College’s commitment to nurturing young leaders – confident, grounded, and inspired to illuminate the path ahead.
