The Creston College Group 5 children have been learning about the different places animals live. Creston College have focused on four main biomes; the desert, polar regions, rainforests and the ocean. The children have had an opportunity to work collaboratively to create orangutans in the rainforest. Some activities included rescuing penguins stuck in ice and the children painted with coloured ice cubes. The children have explored wonderful sensory trays depicting each biome as well as playdough tables. It certainly has been a wonderful week of learning.
Loose Parts Play is a label given to any collection of natural or man-made materials that can be used to expand upon children’s play. This play provides endless opportunities for creating and engagement as the children arrange, rearrange, design, redesign and create patterns and objects as they play. In the Pre-primary, a variety of loose parts play is offered in both the classroom and out in the garden. It is wonderful to witness our children’s creative imaginations and critical thinking skills while they are playing. “Play is our brain’s favourite way of learning.” – Diane Ackerman
