Crawford International Pretoria delivered a standout performance at the recent Grey College Chess Tournament in Bloemfontein, held on 22 and 23 February. The prestigious event brought together some of the country’s top young chess players in a highly competitive two-day contest.

The Pretoria-based school made a strong impression, with its teams securing top positions across different divisions. Team 1 dominated the Prestige Section, securing first place, while Team 2 took top honours in the B Section. Team 3 also put in a commendable performance, finishing sixth in the same category.

Notably, two preparatory school students competed alongside older, more experienced players, demonstrating both skill and composure in a challenging environment.

Coach Eben, who has been instrumental in developing the team’s strategic approach, praised the players for their dedication and resilience. With this success, Crawford International Pretoria has established itself as a formidable presence in the school chess circuit, setting high expectations for future tournaments.
