BRAND NEW SCHOOL BAGS FOR 1000 SCHOLARS .1 000 Grade 1 learners, across 10 schools within the Sol Plaatje Local Municipal area, were excited to receive new school bags when they began their second school term, as part of a Back-2-School Programme. Funded By Matla A Bokone Solar in partnership with Frances Baard District Department of Education, who are one the solar plant’s key stakeholder, this initiative was launched to promote dignity and build self-esteem of these young learners.

“A school bag is a small but significant element in a child’s school career. The delight of receiving a new school bag at the start of their schooling is one that these children, their parents, and their teachers will always remember,” said Lesego Mosiane, Community Liaison Officer for Matla A Bokone Solar.

The initiative not only benefitted school children but also a local black women-owned SMME, through which the bags were procured, thereby contributing to Socio-Economic Development and Local Economic Development.

“Children have been taught to take good care of their school bags, lunch boxes, and juice bottles. The children even proudly used their lunchboxes during the feeding scheme to carry their food,” said Mrs Motlui and Mrs Mosemaka, teachers at Reneilwe Primary School.

The following schools were selected by the Frances Baard District Department of Education to benefit from the programme: Olympic Primary School, Endeavour Primary School, Greenpoint Primary School, Zingiza Primary School, Boitshoko Primary School, Pescodia Primary School, Masiza Primary School, Mankurwane Primary School, Reneilwe Primary School, and Xhunkhwesa Primary School.
