The day matric results are released is often one of mixed emotions, and for Jamie, a matriculant from Abbotts College Centurion, it was no different. Reflecting on the experience, Jamie shared, “Though I may have tried to ignore it beforehand, coming to the school that day was extremely nerve-wracking. My hands were shaking uncontrollably, and I felt nauseous. But when I received my results, I was extremely relieved. Getting my results took a huge load off my shoulders, and I was happy with the results I achieved, as I felt that hard work and determination had paid off.”
Jamie’s results speak to his commitment and perseverance, achieving impressive 6 distinctions with outstanding aggregates in the following subjects:
- Afrikaans FAL: 81%
- CAT: 86%
- Life Orientation: 85%
- Life Sciences: 80%
- Mathematics: 95%
- Physical Science: 81%
These stellar results have paved the way for an exciting future. In February 2025, Jamie will begin studying Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering at the University of Pretoria. “I’ve always loved mathematics and physical sciences,” Jamie explained. “I want to be hands-on in advancing these fields and one day become an expert engineer, solving problems around the world.” With a clear five-year plan in mind, Jamie is focused on mastering his chosen field and making a meaningful impact. Reflecting on his journey to prepare for the exams, Jamie credited the support and resources at Abbotts College Centurion. “Doing my homework and addressing any questions as they arose was crucial. The school offered numerous clinics, which I attended to deepen my understanding of each subject. As exams approached, I sought help from my teachers, who were always willing to assist. I also attended extra classes and practised with many past papers. The commitment and dedication of the teachers were remarkable, and I’m truly grateful for all they have done for me.”
Jamie’s success is a testament to the supportive environment at Abbotts College Centurion, where students are encouraged to excel. Sanet van Rensburg, the Principal of Abbotts College Centurion, highlighted Jamie’s work ethic: “Jamie’s dedication has been intrinsic. From the moment he joined Abbotts, he utilised the system to his advantage, seeking help during assisted homework periods and arranging additional lessons when needed. He attended extra interventions during matric preparation, ensuring he would excel. We are extremely proud of his hard work and are confident that the foundation he has built here will lead to a successful career.” This year, Abbotts College Centurion celebrated a 100% pass rate, with 96% of students achieving a Bachelor’s Degree pass, granting them access to tertiary education. The school also saw significant improvements in marks among part-time students who aimed to better their results. These students achieved improvements of between 10% and 30%. “While we had high expectations for our disciplined students, we are overwhelmed by their achievements,” said van Rensburg. “This success is a reflection of our teachers’ dedication and passion, which are at the heart of the five-year journey to prepare students for matric.” Abbotts College Centurion continues to foster an environment where hard work, determination, and support drive students to reach their full potential, making every matric results day a celebration of success.
